Pursuing a career in STEM.

Growing up, I always had a fascination with space. Seeing little stars at night and seeing a full moon was never just another sight to me; it was special. It was like seeing a dash of paint on a beautiful canvas. I have always found the thought of space to be extraordinary. Astronauts were like idols, planets were like jewels, and I found myself enraptured in a new love. I would love to work with the thing that has always charmed me. Therefore, I would enjoy a career involving astronomy and/or astrology.

It’s never a bad thing to have a couple more career interests when considering a future. It’s always good to have something to fall back on if your first idea doesn’t work out. So, continuing to consider my interest in STEM-related careers, I would also enjoy a health-related technical career. Radiology and medical coding are two careers in this field that I would enjoy pursuing. I’ve always thought that taking a major and a minor in college is a wonderful idea.

I’ve always enjoyed STEM-related classes. Mathematics classes have always been enjoyable to me, and Science classes have always fascinated me. I have taken as many dual-enrollment classes as I can. I also took an AP course my freshman year of high school. Winston County High School teachers and staff have helped me through every hard assignment and tricky exam I’ve taken throughout my high school years. And because I am a quick learner, I use this ability to help the people around me. When I finish an assignment in class, I often try my best to help my classmates who are in need.

I have had more than one opportunity to volunteer in my community through my school, and I have always been happy to take them. I am a member of clubs such as Key Club and Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), which help me get more involved in my community. I have helped run the Santa Shop for elementary school children, donated small hand-sewn bears to families whose babies are in the NICU at Huntsville Hospital for Women and Children, donated handmade wreaths to the elderly at our local nursing home, and much more. Bringing a smile to someone’s face and reminding them that they are loved and seen is what community service truly means to me.

I have tried my best to get involved in as many clubs as possible throughout my school years. I believe clubs and school-based organizations make students want to be more involved in their school. When involved with clubs and organizations, students feel more inclined to make a change as well. Being in the clubs I am in has helped me become a more social person and has encouraged me to make a difference.

My education and the discipline I learned throughout my years at Winston County High School have helped me become a student prepared for college. I have learned to properly manage my time and responsibilities in order to pave the road to my future.

Staying involved in my community has taught me just how important it is to give to others. Sharing kindness in the community and doing good deeds doesn't require payment. Seeing others smile and feel important is the best payment anyone could receive. Through my community involvement, I have learned to work better with others and how important it is to make an impact.
